What we need now is principled leadership that is rooted in integrity and service to others. Yesterday, we witnessed behavior that seeks to destroy what we hold dear, seeks to divide us and not bind us up as a union, as one. This behavior has been fueled by complicity, benefitting those who seek to maintain and strengthen their power.
We saw our democracy stained yet again with inconsistent justice based on race; all insurrectionists must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. And none of this happened overnight. History will not be kind to those who have facilitated and allowed the degradation of our democracy.
Heraclitus said “the soul is dyed the color of its thoughts. Think only on those things that are in line with your principles and can bear the light of day. The content of your character is your choice. Day by day, what you do is who you become. Your integrity is your destiny.” It is our choice, America. Let us take up the mantle of democracy, because she needs us right now.
